Donald Trump Jr. Wants Guys Like Joe Rogan in the White House Briefing Room

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest of the President Trump’s dipshit children, says that he wants his father to allow podcasters into the White House briefing room after he takes power again on Jan. 20, 2025. Trump Jr. floated the idea on his podcast Triggered and insists that he’s actually talked with his dad about.

“We had the conversation about opening up the press room to a lot of these independent journalists,” the junior Trump said on Tuesday’s episode.

“Like, you know, why should… if the New York Times has lied… they’ve been adverse to everything,” Trump rambled. “They’re functioning as the marketing arm of the Democrat Party. Like why not open it up to people who have larger viewerships, stronger followings, like it’s not like the New York…. how much money are they losing per year…”

Junior continued to ramble on and on about mainstream media, eventually saying “I’d love to see guys like Rogan in the White House press briefing.” Rogan sat down with his father for a 3-hour interview shortly before Election Day, which seemed to be a real victory for the once and future president. Kamala Harris did not sit down with Rogan.

But would Rogan even show up to daily White House press briefings? Can you imagine? Try to picture a guy like Rogan, who has a contract with Spotify for $250 million, sitting patiently in the White House briefing room waiting for some press office lackey to walk about and take questions. It’s one of those things that even lower-level MAGA media figures like Charlie Kirk or Benny Johnson would seem unlikely to do. These guys need to be the center of attention, deferring that spotlight only when Trump himself is around. And Trump won’t be at every press briefing. That’s why they exist in the first place—for the White House to communicate the administration’s message without taking up a big chunk of the president’s time each day.

Humorously, the title of Tuesday’s episode of Triggered refers to “regime media,” a dig at mainstream media sources like CNN, which is only funny because conservative media right now isn’t just partisan, it’s quite literally part of the incoming Trump regime. Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, was one of Trump’s biggest donors during the presidential campaign and has tilted the social media platform in favor of Trump.

Previously, Musk had insisted that it was important for social media platforms to be politically neutral. But Musk spent the entire election season sharing misleading information and boosting far-right voices on the site all while explicitly endorsing Trump and even appearing with him at rallies. Musk even hosted a $1 million per day giveaway in swing states, a very transparent effort to buy votes for Trump. And now Trump has Musk spearheading an effort called DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, where he’ll be trying to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget.

Again, just take a minute to imagine these extremely wealthy guys, people like Rogan, trying to do the largely thankless job of showing up and not being the center of attention in an environment like the White House briefing room. But we’ll find out soon enough whether Trump opens up those opportunities after Jan. 20. We’re going to find out a lot of things after Jan. 20 it seems.
