It’s no secret that Big Mike’s been making some major fashion moves lately. Be it Stormzy’s emblematic head-to-toe Burberry look at the British Fashion Awards, or his crisp, double-breasted Boss number at last year’s GQ Man of the Year, Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. can certainly be relied upon to turn a dapper look no matter the occasion. However, donning a neutral-hued, loungewear-inspired ‘fit for his orchestral recording at Abbey Road Studios, Big Mike’s big style just took an unexpected turn. That’s right, once dressed by Banksy, Stormzy is now dressed… in Crocs.
Now, don’t get us wrong, we have only just gotten on board with the controversial Croc as a coveted fashion piece. First rising to sartorial power in the 2010s as an ergonomic choice for outdoor/indoor footwear, the humble croc was soon dismissed “ugly” before being buried in the archives of the noughties for a good decade or so, only to be brought back into the zeitgeist by the skater-core likes of Justin Bieber and edged-up stylings of Post Malone.
In fact, in the wake of the lounge-loving pandemic period, the renaissance of the Croc seems retrospectively inevitable, a closed-cell resin embodiment of fashion’s ongoing love affair with all things ’00s combined with our reawakened need for comfort. And now? The style has officially been claimed as a favourite of menswear (and literal) giant, Stormzy.
First spotted wearing his beloved black Crocs on BBC Breakfast back in November last year, Stormzy’s adoration for comfortable footwear has been well-documented ever since accidentally swanning into the studio in his slippers back in 2020… Which, let’s face it, is incredibly 2020.

After being politely questioned about his atypical choice of footwear for a national broadcast this time around, Stormzy commented, “Last time was an accident, this time was intentional. I’ve gotta be comfortable. They were a birthday gift.”
Styling said “comfortable gift” with a relaxed-meets-refined cashmere lounge set for his Amazon Original recorded an orchestral version of new track “Firebabe”, Stormzy chose to combine comfort with class as he laid down his velvet-rich vocals surrounded by classically-trained musicians in the historical setting of Abbey Road studios.
For those seeking to recreate Big Mike’s full ensemble in all its lounge-luxe glory, we’ve sourced some delectable dupes for his cashmere lounge set in the below picks from the affordable online shelves of Jaeger, to irrefutable cashmere experts, N. Peal and Derek Rose.
This winter season, however, Crocs is upping the ante in the comfort stakes even further (yes, further), and the Crocs classic shoe can now be enhanced still with a warming fleece lining for just a further five quid… should you wish to out-Stormzy Stormzy, that is.
