COVID-19 cases are decreasing in the state of California, with approximately 7 cases per 100,000 people from the week of September 19, compared to the annual high of 219 cases per 100,000 in the week of January 4. Thank God.
Nevertheless, many people still wear masks in their cars, the grocery store and in classrooms.
I’m not here to bash anyone who wishes to wear masks. By all means, if you would like to, please do so for your comfort and what is best for your health.
However, something that needs to be addressed is the politicization of masks and the divide it has caused in our country.
Since COVID hit our shores in January 2020, the issue of masks has continued to display the idiocy of our political system.
Our Democratic Governor Newsom ignored COVID protocols he implemented, and Republicans such as our former president and others downplaying it.
Regardless of whether you identify as a Republican or a Democrat, it is no surprise that the issue of masks has made our nation more divided than ever by just a few pieces of recommended Polypropylene.
From CNN articles on GOP leaders disagreeing with how mask mandates are being handled to Fox News articles on Democrats infringing on our rights with strict mask mandates, these political parties are trying to dehumanize and ridicule the other party.
Both major political parties have clearly forgotten that the other party is full of fellow American citizens. They are human beings who simply want to live according to their own life standards.
From the previous two years, we are now a nation of an increasingly polarized population.
It’s no wonder that some political polls suggest that the US could potentially have another civil war.
If masks are ridiculous and a tool of the Democrats to try to control an American’s life, that’s an opinion. But they’re not at war with those who follow that opinion. They’re fellow Americans.
If masks are necessary to fight COVID and decrease the death toll to COVID, which they are, then wear them. Don’t ridicule people who don’t think it’s the best approach. If they think masks aren’t the best option, then so be it. Chances are they’ll find out for themselves.
If one side is wrong, and the other is right, while both being part of the same nation, it is necessary to inform the side that does not have the facts. It is unfit to criticize the one which is wrong to a degree of a borderline war.
It is necessary to have constructive arguments in a democracy. If everyone has the same approach about an issue, there would be no point in having a democracy. But we don’t have the same opinions.
More often than not, those opinions we may hold are based on lies.
Therefore, it’s essential we work together and inform each other about the facts. If the other party wishes to be more secluded in their discussions, so be it. They will find out who was correct in the near future.
