The mixed-use Northline project, touted as providing a downtown area for Leander, will break ground for apartments this year and start construction on town homes and an entertainment center beginning next year.
The Northline Leander Development Company has partnered with Central Texas-based Novak Brothers on town homes for sale and with Houston-based Slate Real Estate on apartments for rent, the development company said in a news release.
There will be 343 apartment units opening by the end of 2022 to rent and 14 town homes available to buy in the first quarter of 2023, the release said. Presales on the first town homes began this month. There will be a total of 69 town homes built over a two-year-period, a release said.
Another part of the Northline project that will feature restaurants, bars and shops surrounding a central lawn and patio area also will break ground in the first part of 2022. It will be known as the Hub.
Leander City Council Member Jason Shaw said he is looking forward to the opening of the entertainment district.
“I’m excited about the entertainment because that’s what the citizens of Leander have been asking for forever,” Shaw said. He said the district will be a place where “people feel like the can enjoy the city and not just live in it.”
The apartments will be available in studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom sizes and will range from 700 to 1,500 square feet. The town homes, including some available for rental, will range from 1,300 to 3,000 square feet.
Community amenities include a clubhouse, fitness center, co-working and gathering areas, a pool and a courtyard and game lawn.

The prices for the 3,000 square-foot town homes for sale will start in the low $700,000 range, the release said.
“From the charming front lawn trees and landscaping to the oversized primary bedrooms and luxurious bathrooms, we are thrilled to provide residents of Leander with a beautiful and comfortable new place to live,” Joy McVean, managing director of Novak Residential, said about the town homes in the release.

The city has provided $9.54 million to pay for infrastructure, including streets, utilities and parks for the first phase of the project.
The city also has a development agreement that Leander will be reimbursed for the infrastructure costs up to $15 million through a tax increment reinvestment zone.
Northline Leander Development Company also will be reimbursed through the zone for infrastructure costs up to $12.5 million.
The 116-acre, mixed-use Northline project also will have 225,000 square feet of retail space and 1.9 million square feet of planned office space when it is finished.
Northline is expected to take 10 to 15 years to build.
“The community of Northline will address a critical need in one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation that lacks a true downtown district,” Alex Tynberg, the founder of the Northline Development Company, said in the release.
