Glendale opens girls basketball position | News, Sports, Jobs

Glendale’s school board voted to open the varsity girls basketball head coach and assistant coaching positions at its meeting Tuesday night after the topic was put on the agenda by the athletic committee.

Brian Kuhn recently completed his first year as head coach and led the Lady Vikings to a 14-11 record and a victory over Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic in the District 6 Class 1A playoffs that eliminated the defending state champion Lady Marauders from the postseason. Glendale went on to lose to PIAA semifinalist Williamsburg in the District 6 semifinals and Bishop Carroll Catholic in the consolation game.

Glendale athletic director John Matchock did not respond to phone calls seeking comment Tuesday or Wednesday evening, and neither did Kuhn.

The board voted 6-3 to open the position but is allowing Kuhn to reapply.

Despite losing two seniors to graduation, Glendale is expected to return the majority of its playing rotation for next season’s team, and Kuhn told the Mirror after the Lady Vikings’ loss to Carroll that he was looking forward to helping the team improve this summer.

Kuhn has two daughters and a foster child that will be entering their senior seasons next year. He took over for Beth Campbell, who resigned and was an assistant coach at Great Commission this past year coaching her daughter, Kyla Campbell, who also transferred from Glendale to Great Commission for her senior season.
