Mozilla has announced the temporary removal of the data cap on its integrated Firefox browser VPN for summer. In addition to offering unlimited data, the company is expanding the list of countries where this feature is accessible, aiming to provide enhanced security for users traveling during their summer vacations.
Temporary Access to Unlimited Data
Typically, the Firefox browser VPN restricts users to a monthly limit of 50 GB. While this allocation is sufficient for basic web browsing, it can be quickly exhausted by data-heavy online tasks. For the duration of this promotional period, Mozilla is disabling the data counter entirely.
However, users should note that this is a temporary product promotion rather than a permanent upgrade. The 50 GB monthly data cap will be reinstated automatically on September 1.
Expanded Country Availability and Clarifications
Alongside the data cap removal, Mozilla is expanding its connection network beyond the previous 28 countries. The updated list of accessible locations now includes countries such as Portugal, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, and Singapore. The complete list of supported regions is documented on the company’s official blog, as the integrated VPN remains unavailable globally.
Mozilla emphasizes that this free, built-in browser tool should not be confused with “Mozilla VPN,” which is a separate, paid subscription service available in select markets.
This seasonal initiative runs through August 31. Current Firefox VPN users will see the data limits lifted automatically, while new users can test the unrestricted service until the promotion concludes on September 1.
How To Enable?
If you are not seeing the VPN icon in your Firefox, first, make sure to update to the latest version; if it’s still not there, there’s a trick to force it:
1. Open a new tab, and on the URL bar, type about:config
2. On this page, search for browser.ipprotection.enabled and turn that on (True, instead of False). The VPN icon should display now.
