STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team opened its 2021 fall schedule with a 23-0 win over Seminole State at Cowgirl Stadium on Thursday.
Kelly Maxwell got the start in the circle and pitched three perfect innings; she tossed three strikeouts and earned the win in the process.
Illinois State transfer and 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year Morgan Day took over and struck out five in her three scoreless innings pitched.
Offensively, the Cowgirls opened with a four-run inning in their half of the first, including a three-run home run from Sydney Pennington’s on the first pitch she was offered.
The Cowgirls second inning was more of the same: they stacked up six runs on seven hits including multiple hits from Audrey Schneidmiller, Hayley Busby and Pennington.
Schneidmilller, a freshman out of Burleson, Texas, also played well behind the plate by throwing out two would-be base stealers. Along with Schneidmiller, a handful of newcomers performed well in their fall season debut with the Cowgirls.
Two-way talent Tatum Clopton blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth, then entered into the game to pitch for the Cowgirls in the seventh. In her two innings of work, she tallied three strikeouts and kept the Lady Trojans off the board.
Brianna Evans went 5-for-6 added a pair of runs to the Cowgirls’ total; Evans also proved herself as a capable defender with a handful of putouts from second base.
On the night, the Cowgirls totaled 23 runs on 28 hits with no errors.
Up next, the Cowgirls will welcome the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers to Cowgirl Stadium for a fall exhibition on October 29.
