YouTube Premium Price Increase Hits U.S. Users In 2026

Google is raising YouTube Premium prices in the U.S. for the first time since 2023, with the change taking effect immediately for new subscribers and in June for existing users. The standard Premium plan now costs $15.99 per month, the annual plan is $159.99, and the Family plan has increased to $26.99 per month.

The student plan has also gone up to $8.99 per month, and YouTube Premium Lite now costs $8.99 instead of $7.99. Premium still includes ad-free viewing, background playback, offline downloads, and ad-free access to YouTube Music, while Premium Lite keeps ads on some content and does not include YouTube Music benefits.

YouTube Premium Price Increase Hits U.S. Users In 2026According to reports, current subscribers will be notified before their new billing rate begins, with many accounts seeing the higher prices in June. YouTube says the adjustment is meant to help maintain service quality and support creators and artists, though it comes at a time when subscription costs across streaming services continue to rise.

The increase follows the last U.S. Premium price hike in 2023, when the individual plan also moved up by $2. For users deciding whether to keep their plan, the biggest question is whether features like ad-free playback and offline access still justify the higher monthly cost.

The Mountain View giant will probably raise prices outside the U.S. too, but no official word or dates have been given so far for other markets.
