BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Winona State University sits in fourth place overall in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All-Sports Standings following the recent completion of the 2022 fall sports season. The Warriors are tied for fourth with the University of Sioux Falls; both schools earned 46.5 points as announced by the league earlier this week.
Winona State earned 15 points in the men’s sports competition and 31.5 points in the women’s sports standings for a total of 46.5. Augustana led the overall standings with 63 total points and was atop the women’s leader board with 40. Minnesota State – Mankato earned the most points in the men’s standings with 25.8.
Winona State reached the NSIC and NCAA postseason in several fall sports and one program – women’s cross country – has advanced to the 2022 NCAA National Championships, to be held at Chambers Creed Regional Park in University Place, Washington on Dec. 2. Seattle Pacific University serves as the host institution for the event.
In the fall campaign, the Winona State football team earned a share of the NSIC South Division title with a 5-1 record, and qualified for the 2022 NCAA Division II Football postseason with an 8-3 regular season record. The WSU women’s soccer team advanced to the 2022 NSIC Soccer Tournament and finished in sixth place overall in the league. In women’s cross country, Lindsay Cunningham was the 2022 NSIC individual champion and the WSU women’s program finished third overall and was selected for 2022 NCAA championships. Winona State finished tenth in the final NSIC volleyball standings and the Warrior men’s cross country team also took tenth at the NSIC Championships.
The winner of each title in a conference-sponsored championship receives points totaling the number of teams in that sport plus one. The next place finisher receives points totaling the number of teams less the number of places from first place. Ties in the standings at any level shall result in the totaling of points and equal distribution.
The NSIC will release all-sports standings again following the completion of the winter sports season. The NSIC All-Sports Champion is announced following the spring season, with the award being presented at the NSIC Summer Kickoff in July 2023.
