How would you describe your style?
Eclectic and sophisticated. I push the limits but it’s also timeless. It’s a blend of many different moods and tastes, depending on how I am feeling that day.
What are the three essential items in your wardrobe?
I can’t live without a black blazer, a pair of slouchy leather pants and a statement bag. Currently it’s a giant red Bottega Veneta tote that I carry my computer, the kitchen sink and everything else in.
What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe?
A black velvet Vivienne Westwood cape from the 1980s. It’s a hand-me-down from my mum.
And the most recent addition?
A Bottega Veneta “Cassette” bag in seagrass, a neon-citrus colour. I’m channelling my ’80s fluoro moment.
What would you wear …
… on a first date? Turning up in a sexy dress is just not me. On my first date with my husband, I wore a black Yves Saint Laurent suit, a white shirt – unbuttoned and slightly plunging, but not too dramatic – and heels.
… on a plane? Long-haul, I’ll wear a leisure suit and coat. On shorter flights it’s Comme des Garçons low-crotch pants and a blazer.
… on the red carpet? Something custom by Nicolas Ghesquière, referencing his Balenciaga days.
What’s your favourite fashion era?
The ’70s: I love a Victoriana blouse, a pussy-bow blouse and an Annie Hall necktie. Also, the ’80s for Japanese designers such as Comme des Garçons and their broody, dark moods.
Who’s your favourite designer?
Junya Watanabe. Whatever he creates in a season will become the trend, so many designers will follow thereafter. It’s one of my favourite shows in Paris. I have at least one sentimental item from each collection in my wardrobe.
