Bonnaroo is a music and arts festival and many in attendance here this weekend are walking works of art donned in bright colors, sparkly makeup, colorful hair extensions and little else.
Hannah Greene from Kingsport, Tenn., who had jewels around her eyes said she loves dressing up for Bonnaroo because it celebrates music and art.
“I like to make my body art,” she said. “Also, I feel like I look like Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella, so that’s the vibe I am going for tonight. This is the one place you can really wear anything.”

With the extreme summer temperatures setting in on the Manchester farm, the theme for festival attire at Bonnaroo 2022 is “less is more.” Some Bonnaroovians simply tried to dress for the heat with bathing suits, shorts and tank tops while others saw the 90- to 100-degree heat as an opportunity to demonstrate a little flair.
Many were bedazzled from head to toe with everything from sparkly eyelashes down to their sequined high-top Chuck Taylors.
Larkin Gordon, who came from Myrtle Beach, S.C., said she and her group of friends, along with some new ones she made in the campground, coordinated their outfits for their favorite performer of each day.
“I just wanted to color code and get different vibes everyday,” she said, donning a sparkles on her cheeks, a highlighter-green halter top and matching leg wraps. “I’m wearing different colors everyday based on the artist. There was colorful music today, so we went colorful.”
When the Suicide Boys take the stage Gordon and her new friends, sisters Billy and Abagail Brown from northern Illinois, plan to switch it up and wear all black.
“Saturday is more country, so I am wearing a cowgirl outfit and Sunday is Stevie Nicks, so I’m going for more of a Coachella, boho look,” she said.
Sydney Brashear from Mt. Juliet, Tenn., said she felt like Bonnaroo is very “rainbow and pride-inspired.
“There are a lot of disco vibes around here, so I put on my disco outfit,” she said, wearing a rainbow top, silver hot pants, disco ball earrings and five-inch stacked high-top tennis shoes. “I got my raised boots on because I’m so short. These give me like five more inches.
Other common fashion trends seen walking around Centeroo were hats, fishnet stockings (often sparkly), paper fans, pashmina shawls for shade from the sun, colorful hair extensions, sunscreen and hydration packs.
