Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans got to know Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Cosby Jr., after the series premiered in 2020.

Mary welcomed son Robert Jr. in 2002 with husband Robert Cosby Sr.

“I have a beautiful son. When I had my son, I went into a whole other level of love,” Mary said in a season 1 confessional, which aired in 2020. “Robert Sr., he’s in love with his son. He’ll do anything for him. And I’m like the helicopter mom.”

While Mary and Robert Sr. were supportive of Robert Jr., their son had his fair share of ups and downs throughout his life. Robert Jr. struggled with addiction and had previous run-ins with the law. In February 2025, Mary confirmed that Robert Jr. died at age 23.

“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord,” Mary shared in a statement to Us Weekly. “Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”

Robert Cosby Jr. Is the Only Child of Mary Cosby

Mary Cosby and husband Robert Cosby Sr. tied the knot in 1998 and welcomed Robert Cosby Jr. four years later. Robert Jr. had a close relationship with his parents as he primarily resided with them in Salt Lake City before his unexpected death.

“I just feel like he’s very sheltered, and I feel like that’s my fault,” Mary said in a season 5 episode of RHOSLC which aired in 2024. “So that’s why I don’t mind him staying home. One day I’ll give him the boot, but not right now.”

Robert Cosby Jr. Talked About His Addiction Struggles on ‘RHOSLC’

Robert Cosby Jr. opened up about his struggles with addiction while appearing on RHOSLC.

“When I get high, it’s like adding seasoning to it,” he said in a November 2024 episode. “At first, I was like, ‘I’m going to just stick to natural stuff.’ Then, I went to a party, and someone gave me Xanax. I started buying it. Then, I started doing Xanax with acid and then molly with Xanax. I really like Xanax, so I mix it with everything.”

One month after the episode aired, Mary Cosby revealed that Robert Jr. was recovering from a one-month rehab stint.

“I’m not worried about him,” she told Us at the time. “I know he’s somewhere where he’s not using. At some point, I have to step back so that he can learn and he can make his own decisions, and unfortunately, he’s learning the hard way. But I’m OK with it.”

Robert Cosby Jr. Was Divorced

Robert Cosby Jr. reportedly married Alexiana Smokoff in 2022. However, the pair split in November 2025 following a series of incidents between Robert Jr., Smokoff and her father. Robert Jr. pleaded guilty to trespassing and assault and Smokoff subsequently filed for divorce.

Three months later, Us confirmed that Robert Jr. and Smokoff’s divorce was finalized.

Robert Cosby Jr. Had Past Trouble With the Law

Robert Jr. Cosby was arrested in September 2025 following multiple incidents involving Alexiana Smokoff and her father. Two months later, Robert Jr. pleaded guilty to trespassing and assault. He was released from jail in February 2026.
