White & Case has expanded its global debt finance practice in Madrid with the addition of a lawyer from Herbert Smith Freehills
Jaime Rossi, who has since 2020 acted as of counsel at HSF and advises on financing deals spanning acquisition and real estate to restructuring and syndicated lending, joins the firm as a partner, according to White & Case’s announcement. Before his time at HSF, Rossi worked at Fieldfisher, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Garrigues, where he began his legal career.
The hire follows the addition of M&A Madrid partner Javier Monzón, who joined the firm earlier this summer after 16 years at Freshfields. At the time of Monzón’s hire in June, executive committee member and London leader Oliver Brettle said that the move “sends a clear message to the market that we are investing in Madrid for the long haul”.
White & Case’s Madrid office comprises more than 20 lawyers, lies in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and banking finance.
Partner Eric Leicht, head of the global debt finance practice, said of Jaime Rossi’s hire: “Adding another experienced debt finance lawyer like Jaime to the partner mix in Madrid sends a clear message that we have not settled, and intend to build on our run acting for some of the biggest, most sophisticated players in the Spanish market.”
Brettle added: “Jaime is the fourth lateral partner to join our successful EMEA banking practice in 2022.” The firm’s Global Debt Finance Practice in London hired Monica Barton from Winston & Strawn and Paul Yin from Skadden. In Paris, Neeloferr Roy joined the practice from Linklaters.
