Tiger Woods came out with a 2-under first round at the Genesis Invitational. As he played on Friday, fans hoped he’d make the cut and play the weekend.
Anyone who wasn’t in awe of Tiger Woods on Thursday at the 2023 Genesis Invitational is just impossible to impress. After not playing since the 2022 Open Championship back in August and having not teed it up for a non-major since 2020, he showed up and birdied the final three holes to finish at 2-under for the day, inside the Top 30.
That led to Friday and a quick turnaround with a cold morning tee time, which was a concern given his leg injury and subsequent problems he’s been battling. There were two early bogeys for Tiger but he bounced back with birdies on No. 14 and 17 (his fifth and eighth holes after teeing off No. 10) to finish his front-nine at even par.
It was a battle on the back-nine, though, as Woods consistently found himself trying to save par, fortunately doing so on a number of occasions. He ultimately ended the day at 3-over while shooting a 74, putting him at 1-over for the tournament.
That was right about where the Genesis Invitational cut line was supposed to be, but that had people asking if Tiger Woods made the cut.
Did Tiger Woods make the cut? Projected Genesis Invitational cut line
The cut at the Genesis Invitational, like a normal PGA Tour event, is the Top 65 players and ties that will advance to the weekend.
As Tiger finished his round, Data Golf is projecting the Genesis Invitational cut to be at 1-over, giving it a 70.4% chance to end up there along with a 24.5% chance to be at Even and 4.9% at 2-over. Sitting at 1-over, Woods was certainly hoping that some people would fall back in the afternoon wave to get him under the cut line.
We will update you with the final results if Woods made the cut or not at the Genesis.
