Jon Batiste delivered a jazzy rendition of the National Anthem ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
The Grammy Award-winning singer, a Louisiana native, added his signature touch to the song. The performance showed Batiste along with footage of those in attendance, including President Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka Trump.
Accompanying himself on the piano, Batiste’s performance was a highlight of the pregame entertainment. The pregame had a slew of engaging performances. Lady Gaga performed a touching tribute to various cities, including host city New Orleans, that have suffered at the hands of tragedy in recent months. Gaga delivered an emotional rendition of her 2022 Oscar-nominated song “Hold My Hand.”
Taking place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Super Bowl LIX is airing live on Fox. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are once again facing off after the Chiefs prevailed in their 2023 Super Bowl matchup. The Chiefs went on to win the 2024 Super Bowl as well, defeating the San Francisco 49ers. Super Bowl LIX marks the second time in three years that the Eagles have made it to the game, and the fifth time in franchise history. The Eagles earned one Super Bowl win in 2018.
Kendrick Lamar is slated as the 2025 Super Bowl halftime performer, with SZA joining him. The 37-year-old Compton native earned several Grammys just a week ago for his song “Not Like Us.” It’s unclear whether or not he will perform the hit song, which is currently at the center of a lawsuit from fellow rapper Drake.
