Washingtonville councilman ends term with eye on county, state politics | News, Sports, Jobs

WASHINGTONVILLE — Former councilman Eric Sobek participated in the last meeting during his term on council Monday.

Sobek served four years on council and takes pride in his ability to clean up nuisance properties in the village. He contributed to the formation of a maintenance code cleaning up abandoned properties.

“Just being able to try to make even a little bit of a difference,” Sobek said.

Sobek reminded residents that if spouting or siding is falling from their business or residence to remove it or make necessary repairs. He also said he appreciates residents removing unused vehicles and other scrap from yards.

“There is no reason why we all have to live in a town with just [trash] piled everywhere,” he remarked.

Sobek said he intends to use his experience on council as a stepping stone to serve at county and state levels.

He cited his concerns regarding 2020 election fraud as motivation to be a voice for others.

“The mail-in ballots, the cheating, everything. I want to be there to make sure this doesn’t ever happen again,” he said.

Councilman Allen Vignon is preparing to serve his third term on council. He said he appreciates serving his community and expanding the opportunities provided by the village.

“There’s a lot of opportunity here and we’re trying to make it better,” Vignon said.

Vignon has lived in Washingtonville his whole life and looks forward to keeping the town clean and welcoming despite financial hurdles.

“It’s a wonderful little community with a lot a nice people,” he commented.
