Tennessee notched a dominant road victory that it desperately needed Saturday afternoon at Missouri.
Quarterback Hendon Hooker posted a stellar performance as he threw for three touchdowns an ran for another to lead the Volunteers to a 62-24 Southeastern Conference victory at Memorial Stadium.
Hooker went 15-of-19 for 225 yards, while completing scoring passes to Velus Jones Jr., JaVonta Payton and Cedric Tillman in the contest.
Hooker also rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries for the Vols (3-2, 1-1 SEC), who amassed 677 yards of total offense, including 452 yards on the ground.
Tiyon Evans led UT’s ground attack against the Tigers (2-3, 0-2 SEC) as he finished with 155 yards on 15 carries. He scored three touchdowns, including a 92-yard scamper that gave the Vols a 21-3 lead with 3minutes, 13 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The Vols, who led 45-10 at halftime. score 62 points in a game for the first time since 2016 when they defeated Missouri, 62-37, at Neyland Stadium.
Marcus Pierce also scored a rushing touchdown for Tennessee, which had a 55-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Tyler Badie rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown for Missouri, who scored on a 100-yard kickoff return by Kris Abrams-Draine in the third stanza.
D’ionte Smith scored a rushing touchdown for Missouri in the final frame.
