Villagers should lay off the politics and try to enjoy life

To the Editor:

Most of us in The Villages are in the “Autumn of Our Lives.”
I personally have lived through 14 presidents. I remember Ike being elected when I was in grade school. I may have been for or against anyone of these ten presidents. And for the Millennials Ike or Reagan may as well be Millard Fillmore.
The bottom line is, at this point in our lives, why spend our “golden years” being angry about political parties? It will not solve anything except increase prescriptions for blood pressure medications and diminish our health. Anger wears away our health defenses. We have lived through many presidents, raised kids, worked hard in jobs, some that were stressful, and worried about bills and college tuition. Now is the time for us to reap the hard work of all those years by bringing relaxed enjoyment to our lives.
Let’s commit to not being glued to polarizing news channels. Lets watch The History Channel, Animal Planet and Masterpiece Theater. Let’s work on our legacies by sharing good stories, good recipes, drinks with friends and naps in the afternoon if that works for some. I have made a commitment to turn off “The Talking Heads” as all it does is line their pockets with millions of dollars. I worked hard all my life, have children and a grandchild I adore and that is what I want to focus on. I implore my fellow Villagers to do the same.
