A look at what’s happening in Cleveland State Athletics…
Women’s Golf
-Cleveland State will return to action at the 2022 Horizon League Championships this weekend, with action set for Sunday, April 24 – Tuesday, April 26.
-The #HLGolf Championships will take place at Mission Inn Resort in Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla. The Vikings will play 18 holes on all three days, and will be trying for their second Horizon League Tournament title in program history.
-Last time out, Cleveland State finished regular season action with a second-place finish at the YSU Spring Invite, led by Madison Butler who was the co-champion.
Men’s Golf

Men’s Tennis
-Cleveland State (12-10, 6-1) will close out regular season play at home this weekend, hosting league-leader Youngstown State at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
-Last time out, the Vikings picked up back-to-back wins against UIC (6-1) and IUPUI (5-2), extending their win streak to seven straight matches.
-The quartet of Kade Mindry, Clark Bilinovich, JuandeDios Abboud and Raul Teichmann went 2-0 in singles play on the weekend, with Bilinovich moving into sole possession of 12th place on the CSU Singles Wins List with 63 career victories.
Women’s Tennis
-The Vikings (12-10, 5-0) will close out regular season play on the road this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State for a 1:00 p.m. match.
-Entering the weekend, both teams are undefeated in league play and will be battling for the #HLTennis Regular Season Championship and No. 1 seed in the upcoming league tournament.
-Last time out, the Vikings picked up a 7-0 victory over Milwaukee before earning a forfeit win against UIC.
Lacrosse
-Cleveland State will close out the road portion of their regular season slate this weekend, traveling to Detroit Mercy for an 8:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, April 23.
-Last time out, the Vikings dropped a 12-8 decision at Air Force.
-Ryan Haigh tied the single-season goal-scoring record with his 26th tally of the season.
Softball
-Cleveland State (14-17, 10-3) is slated for five games this week, with a double-header against Youngstown State on Tuesday, April 19 and a three-game series against Oakland this weekend (Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23). -After having last weekend’s series at Green Bay adjusted due to weather conditions, the Vikings enter the week on a three-game win streak and are currently third in the league standings.
-Melissa Holzopfel currently ranks second among league players with 148 total strikeouts this year, while ranking third with nine wins so far this season.
Track & Field
-The Vikings will continue their outdoor campaign at the Jesse Owens Invite hosted by Ohio State this weekend, with action taking place on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23.
-Last time out, the Vikings had a strong showing at the Cherry Blossom Invite, paced by six top-10 individual finishes.
-Sara Timberlake posted Cleveland State’s best finish with a sixth place showing in the 400 Meter Hurdles, while Colette Conway (400 Meter Hurdles), Zoe Dellaserra (100 Meter Dash) and Brooke Armbruster (Javelin) all recorded seventh place finishes in their respective events.
Viking of the Week Nominees
Madison Butler, Women’s Golf
Paced the Vikings and earned co-medalist honors with a 7-over performance at the YSU Spring Invite. This marked Butler’s third top-10 finish of the spring season.
Zoe Dellaserra, Track & Field
Posted a pair of top-10 finishes at the Cherry Blossom Invite, placing seventh in the 100 Meter Dash and 10th in the 200 Meter Dash. She was also part of Cleveland State’s 4×400 Meter Relay team that placed fifth overall.
Kade Mindry, Men’s Tennis
Went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 1-1 at No. 2 doubles, helping the Vikings pick up back-to-back wins to extend their win streak to seven straight matches. For the season, Mindry owns a team-best 23-14 singles record.
Klara Mrcela, Women’s Tennis
Picked up a win at No. 2 singles against Milwaukee to remain perfect in #HLTennis singles play this season. Also notched a win at the top of the doubles lineup, helping the Vikings earn the doubles point for the fourth straight match in league play.
