Gates
Velma Gates, 90, formerly of Beaver Valley, died Saturday. She was born in Beaver Valley, daughter of the late William and Grace (Davis) Flemming. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on Apr. 28, 1998, and these brothers and sisters: Loy, Lewis, Lester, Mary Drear, Effie Mae Noel and Emma Barnhart.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Thacker; grandchildren, Brandon Hescox, Brent (Jessica) Hescox and Bethany (Shane) Pepe; six great-grandchildren: Brooke, Bryson, Jordan, Dylan, Michael and Makayla; and numerous nieces and nephews. Velma was the last member of her immediate family.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially going to their sporting events. She also enjoyed being outdoors, camping and going out to eat.
Velma worked at Sylvania in Altoona for 28 years and retired in 1978. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and Beaver Valley United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1085 Main St., Coalport, with Pastor John Poe officiating. Interment will be at Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton.
