UTSA suffers first loss at North Texas in blowout fashion; Two undefeated FBS teams remain

Ikaika Ragsdale and DeAndre Torrey combined for 254 rushing yards and five touchdowns as North Texas handed No. 22 UTSA its first loss of the season, 45-23 on Saturday in Denton, Texas. The Roadrunners, in their 10th season as a program, entered this week as one of three remaining undefeated teams in FBS, along with No. 1 Georgia and No. 4 Cincinnati.

UTSA had scored at least 24 points in every game this season, but was held to 366 yards of offense by the Mean Green. North Texas reeled off 28 consecutive points after UTSA pulled within 17-13 in the second quarter. The Roadrunners also turned the ball over three times.

The win, North Texas’ fifth in a row, clinched bowl eligibility for the 6-6 Mean Green.

The Roadrunners, who defeated Illinois earlier this season, had already clinched a place in the Conference USA championship game next week. UTSA will play either Western Kentucky or Marshall.

Entering Saturday, The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel projected UTSA will play in the Independence Bowl against BYU.
