MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tiger student-athletes Maxi Galizzi (men’s soccer), Elizabeth Moberg (women’s soccer) and Gracie Morton (softball) have been named American Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year for their respective sports.
Each receives a $2,000 scholarship to help with graduate or professional studies. This marks the fourth consecutive year at least two Tigers have earned this award for his or her sport. The award winners were chosen by the member schools’ Faculty Athletic Representatives.
Galizzi is working towards his Master of Business Administration degree after completing his undergraduate work with honors at Christian Brothers University before transferring to Memphis. The Tiger forward was a member of the Dean’s List in each of his two semesters at Memphis.
Moberg holds a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Social Work, and she plans to work on a post-graduate social work certificate. The Memphis goalkeeper also won the AAC Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year award a year ago, and Tigers have now won the last four women’s soccer awards including Stasia Mallin and Lizzie Woerner before Moberg. Moberg is also a five-time AAC All-Academic Team member.
Morton earned her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and plans to attend graduate school at Memphis working towards a master’s degree in Health Administration. The Tiger outfielder is a four-time AAC All-Academic Team member and was twice named an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete.
