OXFORD, Miss. – Privateer track and field returns home after a successful weekend at the Joe Walker Invitational with three record braking performances, 12 combined career bests and five top eight finishes that include one event win. It’s hard to say who stole the show this weekend, but that is not a bad problem to have.
THE BREAK DOWN
On the women’s side, Junior Ariana Jimenez from Florida annihilated the school record by 12 seconds in the 3000m steeplechase with her time of 10:48.07. To join Jimenez in the history books is Samantha Dyson who also set both a personal record and a school record in the discus with a throw of 48.89.
The women’s 4x400m relay (Esther Nwanze, Shamarah Shannon, Aryn Pitre, Briana Bell) topped the competition in a tie with Vanderbilt for first with a time of 3:37.75.
Bell and Shannon also had breakout performances in their respective events. Bell ran a career best time of 12.36 in the 100m, while Shannon ran a career best with 57.57 in the 400m.
Mathilde Helms-Kjaer also ran a career best time of 17:31.88 in the 5000m.
On the men’s side, freshman Adrian Bichara set a new freshman school record in the 800m with his time of 1:50.81. His performance also ranks him number one in the Southland Conference in this event.
Senior Kameron Jones had a strong performance in the 400m hurdles, running a career best of 53.09 and placing third in the event. Coy Sauceman wasn’t far behind coming in seventh with a 55.11, a new career best.

Vojislav Gvero led the way in the field events setting a new personal record in the discus throw with a throw of 46.40. He also placed fourth in the hammer throw with a throw of 61.47.
COACH’S CORNER
