The highlight of last week, apart from the Easter celebrations, was undoubtedly the May 2025 issue of Vogue, just ahead of the Met Gala. In line with this year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, the iconic publication spotlighted the most stylish Black celebrities, and we couldn’t help but drool over the lineup, all of whom truly embodied the theme. While much of the buzz surrounded the outfits, it was the beauty looks featured on Black women that caught our eye. From Yseult to Naomi Ackie, the makeup and hairstyles offered a tantalizing preview of what we can expect on the Met Gala red carpet this year.
But the Vogue editorial was just the beginning. We were also treated to unforgettable beauty looks from Black women across various events. Whether it was the second week of Coachella, Easter celebrations, or even new campaigns and movie premieres, the beauty delivered sheer sass. We found ourselves enthralled, gasping in admiration at every turn.
The Looks
Makeup
We’re calling it: the makeup looks poised to shake up the 2025 Met Gala will be all about harmony and effortlessness. How do we know? Last week’s May 2025 Vogue editorial gave us a glimpse—and the stars have spoken. Many leaned into sleek, understated beauty looks that whispered luxury rather than shouted it.
Among the standout moments was none other than French singer Yseult. The vocal powerhouse embraced monochromatic finesse, brought to life through rich black tones. Her smoky black eyeshadow danced in sync with a sharply defined black lip liner, creating the perfect canvas for a soft neutral lip. The result? A bold yet balanced beauty statement that oozed intention.
Meanwhile, Siena Kelly took a vibrant detour in her New Wave Magazine spread, letting pink take center stage. Her luminous hot pink eyeshadow stole the show, paired with coral-tinted lips and naturally bushy brows. The look was sexy, slightly undone, and effortlessly modern—a refreshing contrast that still aligned with the season’s mood of polished ease.
Hairstyles
Meanwhile, actress Wunmi Mosaku has been serving look after look on the Sinners movie promo trail—and last week was no exception. For the London premiere, she looked nothing short of regal with a sleek top bun that beautifully highlighted her bone structure. But this wasn’t just any top bun. Hers came with a braided accent at the front—a subtle, stunning nod to cultural roots that added depth to the elegance.
As temperatures rise, Black women aren’t just bringing the heat—they are the heat, especially when it comes to colorful hair statements. Last week, both Chlöe Bailey and Megan Thee Stallion turned heads in fiery red tresses, each rocking the hue in ways that reflected their signature style. Chlöe embraced textured red locs while exploring Brazil, exuding free-spirited flair. Meanwhile, Megan kept it sleek and sculpted in crimson waves at Coachella’s second weekend, radiating red-carpet glamour in festival form. Though their looks differed in texture and vibe, one message was loud and clear: the red mane is versatile, bold, and here to stay.
