Timothée Chalamet has a special message for Josh Brolin!
The actor, 29, sang “Happy Birthday” to his Dune costar, 57, while receiving this year’s Arlington Artist of the Year Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, Calif. The event was presented in part by DAOU Vineyards.
Brolin introduced Chalamet for the award, and also moderated an onstage conversation. When Chalamet learned of Brolin’s Feb. 12 birthday, he led the audience in a lively rendition of the celebratory song in dedication to the Goonies alum.

Before the impromptu performance, Brolin asked Chalamet if he has any dream roles he’d like to take on in the future, to which the Bones and All actor said, “I don’t want to talk in delusions of grandeur, but you know, I’m 29. When I turn 30, I’ll be closer to 40 than I’m 20, which is still very young. Shout out to everyone in the room. But I feel like the clock is ticking a little bit and I’m serious.”
Josh jokingly replied, “I turn 57 tomorrow motherf—er,” which prompted the other actor to sweetly begin singing the song.
The tribute to Chalamet highlighted his performances in A Complete Unknown and Dune: Part Two. “This honor recognizes Chalamet’s unparalleled talent and his enduring impact on the cinematic landscape,” the event description stated.

Chalamet also reflected on his acting range during the conversation portion of the evening. After stepping onstage following a collection of his movie clips that were shown to the audience, he said, “That was the trippiest montage.”
The actor joked: “Wonka to Bob Dylan. Really?”
At this part of the evening, Chalamet referred to Brolin as his “brother-slash-father figure,” which Brolin corrected to, “Otherwise known as the old man.”
The awardee later discussed playing the legendary singer-songwriter and how much he looks up to him as a musician and artist.
“I admire Bob Dylan [and] these great lyricists [and] artists that generate the work,” he said. “Maybe one day I’ll generate the work. Maybe one day I’ll write something great.”
From filmmaker James Mangold, who was also in attendance at the event, A Complete Unknown depicts Dylan bursting onto the folk-music scene in 1960s New York City, with Edward Norton playing Pete Seeger and Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez.
Chalamet, Norton, Barbaro, and Mangold are among the eight Academy Award nominations for the movie. The biopic is also up for Best Picture, along with Dune: Part Two.
