Tigers to Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis Athletic Department will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day at their home women’s basketball game on Feb. 2 against Cincinnati. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

The first 500 fans at the game will receive a special t-shirt that celebrates women and girls in sports. Each of Memphis’ women’s student-athletes, coaches and staff members will be honored during timeouts throughout the game. There will also be a special contest featuring members of the Tiger women’s teams. 

Prior to the game, a panel consisting of women who currently hold positions with sporting teams will take place in the Rose Theater from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Attendees of the panel will receive a special $2 group rate ticket to the women’s basketball game. 

Members of the panel include:

  • Lauren Ashman, Executive Associate Athletics Director and Senior Women’s Administrator for the University of Memphis
  • Jessie Carmack, Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations, Senior Women’s Administrator and Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Christian Brothers University
  • Abusheri Ohwofasa, Vice President, Community Engagement & Exec. Director at the Memphis Grizzlies
