A third public forum sparked some controversy this week.

Three candidates, Andrew Neal, Cortney Loyd, and Dawn Schieldt, all running on conservative platforms, were no shows saying they were too busy to attend.

In national politics, this week Senator John Hickenlooper introduced a bill that would require competitive bidding for drilling for oil and gas on public lands.

Currently, the government is able to sell drilling rights on public lands, accounting for more than 720,000 acres in Colorado alone.

These projects are usually leased to oil and gas industries. and some of this land has gone as cheap as $1.50 an acre in a non-competitive bidding process.

Finally, some sad news from Washington, D.C., Colin Powell, the first black Secretary of State, died this week from COVID-19 complications, as well as Multiple Myeloma and Parkinson’s. Secretary Powell was 84.
