Valentine’s Day was last week, but Elizabeth Lyons’ (Reily) song “Always” makes any day feel like a celebration of love! The sweet music video was released Monday, February 21 and features two young New Orleans actors in locations around the city.
Inspired by her husband, Will Reily, the singer wrote the song back in 2020 with Jonathan Sherwood who is signed to Eric Church’s publishing label, Little Louder Music. “‘Always’ is about realizing you want to always spend every second and day with who you love,” she told Adore. “You want to make it forever and that they don’t have to worry about your love because it’s so strong.”
The song is “Motown country” (similar to Kacey Musgraves “High Horse”) and features a saxophone solo. “It’s one of my favorite instruments and I wanted to bring New Orleans horns into the song as a tribute to my husband.”
The video was shot in January at City Park and Metairie Park Country Day School with Beau Hart and Charli Slaughter. Lyons describes “Always” as a fun feel-good song and wanted a video that showcased two young people falling in love with each other. As a co-director and co-producer, the singer was also able to work directly with the actors.
“Miles Mumford, a local director, took it to the next level. We decided to make it so that the male actor is very serious about playing saxophone, and when he meets the female actor, he realizes there is more to life than just music and that their love inspires him to be a better musician. This is a similar story to how my husband Will has helped me to find more balance in my life.”
“Always” along with eight other songs will be available to hear on Lyons’ first full length album on Friday, March 11. You can hear songs from the album live at French Quarter Fest on Thursday, April 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Abita Beer Stage.
