The pocket-sized microphone is packed with features other than recording equipment. It connects to your computer with a USB-C connection, but it also acts as a stand-alone portable audio recorder with 8GB of internal memory. The built-in 700mAh lithium-ion battery can withstand up to 14 hours of portable recording with noise reduction turned off and 10-12 hours with noise reduction turned on.
One thing you need to know about Tula: it works great. The audio is recorded very clearly and has built-in noise reduction to eliminate unwanted background sound. The specification states that the frequency range is 50-20k and the bit depth / sample rate is 24-bit 48kHz.
Recording is done in two ways. The cardioid unidirectional polar pattern is very sensitive to the sound directly in front of the microphone. With omnidirectional recording, audio is collected evenly from all directions. Use the microphone selection button on the side to switch between recording options.
The Tula is the size of a playing card deck (3.8 x 2.5 x .98 inches) and has a 3.5mm input on the side for headphones or a lavalier clip-on microphone. The flip stand is ideal for rotating to the required angle.
A pair of LED lights on the front indicate that recording is taking place, memory is full, battery level, and act as a gain meter. Controls are on the sides for gain up and down, forward, back, mute, volume, recording on and off, playback, power and noise reduction.
Getting the recorded file from Tula is easy. Simply connect it to your PC as a drive and you can copy the recorded .wav file to the same file you would copy from an external drive.
