‘The Magnificent Seven’ MGM+ Series Casts Will Patton Opposite Matt Dillon

EXCLUSIVE: Will Patton is set as a lead opposite Matt Dillon in MGM+’s upcoming drama series The Magnificent Seven from Heroes creator Tim Kring, a reimagining of the classic 1960 Western film.

Patton, the star of Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga movies and Armageddon, joins the cast as ruthless baron Cyrus T. Clemons to Dillon’s seven gunslingers leader Chris Adams. While Dillon’s Adams character was portrayed by Yul Brynner in the original 1960 film, Patton’s Clemons character is new to the series.

Clemons is confident, swaggering and convinced of his own destiny in the 1880s American frontier-set series. Before the Civil War, he was a humble music teacher. But after surviving the horrific battle of the Bloody Angle, he came out the other side realizing the world is made up of winners and losers, and he was bound and determined to come out on top, no matter the cost. He eventually meets his wife Beatrice and they cross the country. The town of Clemons is meant to be his crowning glory, but to achieve that, he needs the land owned by a peaceful, yet resolute group of Quakers. When they refuse to sell their land to Clemons, and hire the Magnificent Seven to fight back, Clemons is forced to use his private army to drive them from their land. But the further his plans unravel, the more desperate Clemons becomes.

Kring (Heroes, Touch, Dig, Crossing Jordan) wrote and executive produced the series alongside EPs Donald De Line (Billy the Kid, Wayward Pines), Lawrence Mirisch, Bruce Kaufman and Dillon. Casting is by Seth Yanklewitz. MGM+ Studios and MGM Television Studios are producing.

The series will be available on MGM+ in the United States, United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and Chile.

Patton’s feature credits also include Remember the Titans, No Way Out, The Mothman Prophecies, the Oscar winning Minari, and the recent reboot of the Halloween franchise opposite Jamie Lee Curtis. Patton was nominated in 2022 for best actor by the Film Independent Spirit Awards for his performance in Alexander Rockwell’s Sweet Thing. He also recently narrated the 4x Oscar-nominated Netflix movie Train Dreams for which he won the 2026 Astra Award for Best Voice Over Performance as well as awards from the Austin and St. Louis Film Critics Associations for his narration. Patton’s TV credits include the Apple TV futuristic series Silo opposite Rebecca Ferguson and David Oyelowo and the soon to be released Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey on Paramount+. He’s had recurring roles on Amazon’s Outer Range opposite Josh Brolin as well as in the audience hit series Yellowstone. He played the role of Captain Weaver for five seasons on Steven Spielberg‘s Falling Skies on TNT. The actor is repped by Independent Artist Group and Grand View Management.
