Leonard Pitts Jr.’s column “Sorry, Donald, not interested,” (Dec. 8): You mean others are buried with never-ending solicitations every day too? Congress needs to simplify and streamline campaign financing, if only they weren’t so busy fundraising. All polls, surveys and petitions are merely covers for a handout, and I share the panhandle fascination even if it is a spaghetti-against-the-wall toss seeing if anything will stick. Everyone or no one. We are crying tears of horror or joy, be the first or last, east or west, worst or best, just beat this FEC end of quarter, month, week, day or sentence deadline. We need your money NOW, never mind that Election Day is nearly a year away. How and when did our election priorities change from the best ideas and votes to the best fundraising and money?
