n Sunday night, the stars converged at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the biggest award in film. The 2023 Oscars was the grand conclusion to a week that was certainly heavy with events that caused Black stars to push the bar in the beauty department. From the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Awards to the TIME Women of the Year celebration, these ladies were mesmerizing in makeup and hairstyles that rose to the demand of the moment.

Just like stars sparkle unhindered against the backdrop of the midnight sky, so did Tems shine at the 2023 Academy Awards. The Nigerian singer opted for shimmering silver eye makeup that unapologetically flattered her deep melanin skin. Accompanying her glistering eyes were witchy lashes that upped the allure of the look which finished off with deep brown lipstick for a nice balance. No doubt, the star offered one of the best Oscars beauty looks we saw during the night. 

The month of March is unofficially Women’s Celebration month, so it’s only fitting that a slew of organizations chose this month to recognize women excelling in their field. One such celebration was the Essence Black Women in Hollywood awards that took place last week. As expected, Black women came determined to cause a sensation on the red carpet, and girl, they succeeded. For instance, Karrueche Tran showed up in a chic take enlivened with a neutral face beat. Her look featured earthy tones across her lips and eyes and rosy cheeks that added a dash of fun to the look.

The best Oscars beauty looks certainly weren’t limited to the makeup category. The mane reigned proudly, of course. At film’s biggest night, Janelle Monáe favored a hairstyle with as much character as she possesses — three cornrows with metallic strings and an attitude to match!
