Priya Ahluwalia selected a dreamy garden landscape hidden in the city of London to present her eponymous house’s latest collection. Usually, London weather warrants rain slickers and umbrellas, however the day was blessed with warm and sunny weather that transported guests elsewhere in Ahluwalia’s garden. Amongst the verdant scenery, the runway was composed of vintage carpets laid out in a line that reflected the textiles and coloring within the collection, ‘Africa Is Limitless’. For this show, Ahluwalia took to researching all 54 different countries and cultures in Africa where she examined various artists, photographers, and creatives to base the collection off. The show comprised both men’s and womenswear using wavy knits and complementary color stories to paint a cultural picture of Africa. Ahluwalia nodded to various cultural touchpoints in the collection, including African nations’ football kits, draping with Kenyan and Somali tradition and Indian saris in mind, Nigerian Ankara fabric, and headwraps inspired by Nina Simone’s time in Liberia. Overall, the collection was felt as Ahluwalia’s love letter to her African and Indian heritage.
