Deadline reports Atari has and signed a deal with Universal Pictures to develop a series of films based on ten of the company’s classic arcade and video games. These include Asteroids, Adventure, Berzerk, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Missile Command, Pong and Yars’ Revenge. While the article does not state which game the flagship film in the planned franchise is based on, the outlet reports “the catalyst was an original spec by [Matt] Reilly, the longtime studio exec at Universal who pivoted to screenwriting and producing, and [Carl] Hampe, a producer on Hellboy who also worked on Jungle Cruise among other films.”

During his recent appearance on The Dan Patrick Show (via World of Reel), Matt Damon described the Daniels’ new movie as “The Breakfast Club meets Inception meets an anime film meets and episode of The John Oliver Show.”

The way they pitched it to me was: if The Breakfast Club meets Inception meets an anime film meets an episode of The John Oliver Show that didn’t get aired. So, if you liked Everything Everywhere All at Once and all the wildness and all the heart, I think you’ll really like this one.

Variety reports a spinoff of Joe Begos’ Jimmy and Stiggs focusing on the same alien threat “is now in development at the Horror Section from director Sebastián De Caro. Starring Agostina Palazzolo, Agustina “Papry” Suásquita, and Maia Tarcic, the follow-up film “follows new characters battling the same extraterrestrial threat in Argentina, taking Begos’ universe in a bold new direction.”
