Sony has reportedly begun offering a free one-year upgrade to its top-tier PlayStation Plus Premium subscription service for select users.
This targeted promotion follows recent reports indicating that the company was also offering automatic discounts to subscribers attempting to cancel their active memberships.

To date, Sony has not officially announced the promotion, suggesting the campaign is a limited rollout or a targeted promotional test.
PlayStation plus premium upgrade?

According to user reports shared on Reddit, the PlayStation Store has displayed a 100% discount on upgrading to the Premium tier. While the upgrade itself is free, the process is not entirely without initial costs. Users must first pay a prorated fee to cover the transition period of their active subscription.
- Prorated Charges: The system calculates a prorated charge based on the remaining days until the next scheduled renewal date of the user’s current active subscription plan.
- The Upgrade Scenario: A subscriber on the basic PS Plus Essential tier with an expiration date of July 31 paid $26.23 (plus taxes) to cover the transition period up to that date.
- The Free Twelve Months: Once this initial prorated payment is processed, the Premium subscription is maintained at no additional cost for the subsequent 12 months. For the user in question, the next billing cycle was successfully deferred until July 2027.
Eligibility and Distribution
It remains completely unclear how many PlayStation Plus subscribers are receiving this promotional offer or what specific criteria Sony is employing to select eligible user accounts.
Because the Japanese company has not published an official statement, it is highly likely that this distribution is restricted to a small test group or designed as a targeted customer retention measure.
For now, users are advised to check their PlayStation Store dashboard to see if their accounts are targeted for this promotional upgrade.
