Sen. Marco Rubio made a campaign stop in Tampa this week to pick up the endorsement of the Florida Police Chiefs Association.
Spectrum Bay News 9’s Holly Gregory sat down with the senator for a lengthy interview afterwards on everything from inflation to the rising crime rates.
But she started off asking Sen. Rubio if he supports Gov. Ron DeSantis’s pushback against Disney, including perhaps revoking special privileges for the theme park.
“I think the broader argument isn’t about the local part. I think the broader argument is this: You have companies like Disney as an example that benefit greatly from being in Florida that benefit greatly from this treatment under the law,” he said. “And that benefit greatly from being American origin.
“Yet they also benefit greatly from the work they do. They have a park in China and they never say a word about China. But if they don’t like what some democratically elected legislature does in a state like Florida, then they throw the full weight of their corporate power against those people in their criticisms and in their attacks. And I think when they do those sorts of things it reminds people and I think you ask yourself why do we treat them any differently in a place like Florida.”
Sen. Rubio is expected to face Rep. Val Demings in what will be a closely watched mid-term race.
You can year Holly’s entire interview with Sen. Rubio on this Sunday’s Political Connections. It airs at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
