Schmigadoon!, the most Tony Award nominated production of the 2025-2026 Broadway season, will launch a North American Tour in September 2027, producers announced today.
The tour will premiere at Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre before traveling across the U.S and Canada, with engagements slated for Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington DC, and others.
Additional cities and casting will be announced at a later date.
Additionally, Broadway licensing house Theatrical Rights Worldwide has acquired the stage licensing rights to the musical comedy. Under the agreement with TRW, Schmigadoon! will initially be positioned for productions in over 60 countries worldwide, with projected audiences expected to surpass 4 million globally, according to the announcement.
North American licensing is expected to include professional, regional, amateur, community and school productions, including a specially adapted middle and high school edition created with Cinco Paul.
“Since we first set out to bring Schmigadoon! to the stage, our goal has always been to create a production that could be enjoyed on Broadway and beyond,” said the producers of Schmigadoon!. “[Director] Christopher Gattelli and his incredible team of designers have built this show with craft and care in a way that will allow communities across all 50 states to experience the exact same joy, scale, and theatrical magic audiences are currently embracing on 41st Street.
“We’re also thrilled,” they continued, “to place the show in the hands of theater groups nationwide through our licensing partnership with TRW, ensuring that Schmigadoon! can continue bringing people together through the joy of live theater for decades to come.”
Schmigadoon! has received 12 Tony nominations including Best Musical.
The Broadway production of Schmigadoon! stars Alex Brightman and Sara Chase as Josh Skinner and Melissa Gimble, a couple who accidentally wander into Schmigadoon – “the magical town where every day is a musical. Everybody has a song for everything, the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye, and the only bridge out of town leads nowhere. Melissa and Josh soon discover the only way to escape is by finding true love – which may or may not be with each other.”
The Broadway production also stars Ana Gasteyer, Ann Harada, Brad Oscar, Ivan Hernandez, Maulik Pancholy, Max Clayton, McKenzie Kurtz and Ayaan Diop.
Gattelli directs with a book and score by Cinco Paul. The musical opened on Broadway on April 20 and will run through January 3, 2027.
Schmigadoon! is produced by Lorne Michaels, Micah Frank, and Caroline Maroney on behalf of Broadway Video and Christine Schwarzman and Megan O’Keefe on behalf of No Guarantees Productions.
