The College of Saint Rose men’s basketball freshman forward Shane O’Dell was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year and a second-team All-Conference pick, it was announced Monday.
O’Dell, a Schalmont High School graduate, has been chosen the NE-10 Rookie of Week five times this season. He is fourth among the conference’s leaders with a 19.8 scoring average, ninth with 7.0 rebounds per game and fourth behind a 1.2 blocks average. O’Dell finished in double-figure scoring in 22 of the Golden Knights’ 25 games and has recorded six double-doubles.
RUSSELL SAGE’S KNIGHT WINS EMPIRE 8 HONOR
Russell Sage freshman volleyball defensive specialist Camden Knight was named the Men’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week on Monday by the New England Collegiate Conference.
Knight, a Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School graduate, totaled 20 digs in two matches last week.
ECAC HOCKEY HONORS RPI’S LINDEN
RPI senior forward Ture Linden was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week on Monday.
Linden had three goals and an assist as the Engineers went 1-1 over the weekend and clinched home ice for the first round of the ECACH tournament. He had the game-winning goal in Friday’s 6-3 victory over Dartmouth, the team RPI will play in the best-of-three series starting Friday.
RPI also announced that it will allow fans from outside the campus to the first-round series. Fans must provide proof of vaccination and wear a facemask.
UNION LACROSSE GOALIE DONAHUE RECOGNIZED
Union lacrosse sophomore goalie Dan Donahue was named Liberty League Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Performer of the Week on Monday.
Donahue made 11 saves in the 12th-ranked Dutchmen’s 8-4 season-opening win over Babson on Sunday. Eight of those saves came in the second half.
SAINT ROSE MEN’S LACROSSE DUO HONORED
The College of Saint Rose’s men’s lacrosse junior attack Cam Smith and junior goalie Ryan Fleming were recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference.
Smith was named the NE-10 Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week. He scored a program-record eight goals in Sunday’s 21-4 win over Georgian Court.
Fleming, a Saratoga Springs High School graduate, earned NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week. He made 10 saves and allowed two goals in 49:51 of action against Georgian Court.
MYERS REACHES ROUND OF 16 IN JUDO EVENT
Melissa Myers of the Jason Morris Judo Club reached the round of 16 in the 70k division at the Warsaw Open on Sunday in Warsaw, Poland.
It’s the second time on her four-event European tour that Myers has made it that far. Myers lost to Rachael Hawkes of Ireland in the round of 16 and was eliminated. Myers moves up two spots in the world rankings to a career high No. 87 with this result.
Max Alaynick lost an opening-round bout in the 81kg to Madiyar Sewmbayev of Kazakhstan.
