Where did Ryan Gosling meet Eva?
Gosling and Mendes got close on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in August 2011. The movie filmed in New York, and Gosling played Mendes’ love interest in the drama, but it turns out they actually knew one another before that, too.
Mendes told the then-O! The Oprah Magazine (now Oprah Daily ), “We had known each other for a while already, so to work together was really exciting.”
Is Ryan Gosling still married to Eva Mendes?
Er, technically no. As far as anyone knows, Gosling and Mendes never actually got married. They are, however, as in love as ever.
Mendes explained in a 2011 interview why she wasn’t ever in a rush to rock a white dress.
“I’m not like anti-marriage or the institution, like for other people, and I love the idea of a union—that’s all very beautiful. But I think, you know, it’s a very old-fashioned, archaic kind of thing. We did it for land originally. How unromantic is that?” She added that she loves the idea of being “with someone in your fifties and sixties and [being] like, ‘That’s my boyfriend.’”

Gosling has never put a ring on anyone! That said, he and Mendes are still together and seem quite happy.

Why did Eva Mendes stop acting?
During an appearance on The View in May 2022, Mendes revealed she stepped back from acting to be home with her and Gosling’s two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada, and to focus on other projects like her sponge brand and erstwhile New York and Company fashion line (please come back, we loved it!). She did note that she’d consider a return to acting, but the project would have to meet some strict requirements.
“I have such a short list of what I will do, before kids I kinda was up for anything,” she explained (via Entertainment Weekly ). “I mean, if it was a fun project. But now I won’t do violence, I don’t want to do sexuality, the list is short.”
What’s more, Mendes being home has allowed Gosling’s star to soar.
When he thanked her during his 2017 Golden Globes acceptance speech, he noted, “You don’t get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain. While I was singing and dancing and playing piano … my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother with his battle with cancer.”
