SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Fargo-Moorhead snapped a brief losing streak by playing much like the team that won 34 of 47 games before the skid.
Half of the RedHawks’ 12 hits against Sioux Falls on Saturday went for extra bases — including three home runs — and two pitchers combined for an effective nine innings in an 8-2 victory before 1,624 at Sioux Falls Stadium.
The teams were tied 2-2 after six innings but the RedHawks broke the game open on Leo Pina’s two-run single and John Silviano’s three-run homer in the seventh.
The two RedHawks runs up to that point came on Rymer Liriano’s solo homer in the fourth and Pina’s solo shot in the sixth.
F-M tacked on a run in the eighth when Sam Dexter singled and scored on Evan Alexander’s RBI double.
RedHawks starter Tyler Grauer went seven innings to get the win. He allowed two runs on six hits, didn’t issue a walk and struck out three. Reliever Luke Lind retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth innings.
The RedHawks, now 35-16, maintained their lead in the West Division and they play the third of a three-game set against the Canaries at 1:05 p.m. Saturday, July 10.
American Association teams will be off for the three-day All-Star Game break beginning Monday.
