Recall Alert: VW Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport

Reading Time: < 1 minuteVolkswagen has issued a recall alert for about 223,000 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs from model years 2019 through 2023 because their side airbags may not deploy properly in an accident.

In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, VW explains, “The door wiring harness electrical contacts may corrode, disrupting the electrical connection and delaying the deployment of the driver or passenger front side airbag during a side-impact crash.”

Owners might notice an intermittent airbag warning light as the problem develops.

Dealers will inspect the wiring harnesses. If they don’t find corrosion, they will secure the harnesses in a way that should prevent future corrosion. If they find damage, they will replace the harnesses and fully secure the replacements.

Recall repairs are always free.

Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has any outstanding repair orders at our recall center.
