American prodco Ample Entertainment and global producer and distributor Fremantle are partnering on a new premium documentary feature about infamous Fyre Festival founder and convicted fraudster Billy McFarland following his release from U.S. federal prison.
Production on After the Fyre is already underway, with cameras accompanying McFarland (pictured) as he returns to the outside world after serving four years of his six-year prison sentence for wire fraud. The doc will follow the disgraced entrepreneur as he tries to launch his next business venture and attempts to pay back the $26 million he still owes after pleading guilty to defrauding investors, partners and attendees of the notorious failed music festival that took place in 2017.
Fyre Fest was the subject of a pair of 2019 documentaries, Netflix’s Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and Hulu’s Fyre Fraud. The team behind the new project says it will “pick up” from where those films left off.
After the Fyre is directed by Ample Entertainment co-founders Ari Mark and Phil Lott (HBO’s The Invisible Pilot).
“As we continue to aggressively cultivate our library of films, we’re generating IP-driven, must-see content that will resonate with viewers,” said Mark in a release. “After the Fyre is the perfect example of an in-house Ample production that is both premium and broad.”
