If fashion is embracing one color this fall, it’s undoubtedly purple, from a soft lavender to a rich mulberry.
The trend was sparked by Pantone’s color of the year, “Veri Peri,” a dramatic periwinkle. All shades of purple reigned on fall’s runways.
Valentino crafted a ready-to-wear collection reflecting purple majesty: Orchid jackets, sweaters, cape dresses and skirts paraded down the runway, as well as haute couture gowns with lilac ruffles. Viktor & Rolf played with structure and periwinkle, while Zuhair Murad, who recently designed Jennifer Lopez’s wedding dress, turned to a sumptuous grape for a collection of dreamy gowns.
Purple is the color of royalty. Originally made from a rare and costly dye, it has retained its elite status. Its bold, luxurious look has captivated celebrities, too. Think David Bowie and, of course, Prince.
For those who dare to slip into a beautiful purple silhouette, it’s the statement of the season.
