Prince William assured fans that the late Queen Elizabeth‘s Pembroke Welsh corgis would be in good hands after her majesty’s passing.
The queen had a strong love for corgis. Many of the dogs she raised throughout her lifetime were descendants of her first Corgi, Susan, whom she was gifted on her 18th birthday.
The Prince of Wales surprised fans who gathered outside Westminster Palace, where the queen rests after her passing on Sept. 8th. As fans waited in line to view her coffin, William approached one mourner who was worried about Her Majesty’s corgis: Muick and Sandy.
The sweet moment was initially captured by Sky News and has since gone viral. In the video, the queen’s grandson reassured a fan that her corgis were in good hands.
“I saw them the other day, that got me quite sad,” Prince William said.
Prince William continued, with some lighter news, “They are going to be looked after fine.”
As he held the woman’s hand, he said: “They are two very friendly corgis so they’ve got a good home. They’ll be looked after very well, spoilt rotten I’m sure.”

In addition to Muick and Sandy, her majesty left behind two other dogs. Candy, a Dorgi (a mix between one of Princess Margaret‘s Dachshunds and one of the queen’s Welsh Corgis) and a Cocker Spaniel named Lissy.
Last week, it was reported by CNN that the corgis would now be living with the Duke and Duchess of York, Prince Andrew, who gifted the dogs to the queen, and his ex-wife, Sarah, who also resides at the Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate.
It’s unclear where her pups will end up permanently, but one thing is certain: the royal fur babies will be left in good hands.
