Neon has just released the new redband trailer for Pleasure, a film that follows the journey of a newcomer to the LA adult entertainment industry. Needless to say, the new trailer gives us a pretty explicit look into the raw and honest new film, which premieres in theaters in the United States this May.
The film follows Linnea (Sofia Kappel) a twenty-year-old Swedish woman who moves to Los Angeles in pursuit of a career in porn. She soon changes her name to the evocative Bella Cherry, and the trailer shows Bella as she pushes herself past her own boundaries in order to advance her career and regard within the industry. As her career advances, she becomes more involved in the BDSM scene and comes to a breaking point.
As seen in the new, more explicit trailer, the film takes a naked, unromantic look at the porn industry through the lens of Bella Cherry’s experience. The trailer puts an emphasis on performance and facade, and how it blends, in a surreal way, with reality.
The trailer starts with the words “are you ready?” spoken by a man off-screen. The shot then shifts from Bella’s face to the lens of a camera, the word action, and then a snap. Bella takes a breath, looks into the camera, and then shifts into her on-camera self, letting out a whispery “hi,” to the camera. This introduction then tumbles into scenes from her career, learning to pose, and her push into the BDSM scene. But throughout the trailer, the tension between Cherry and the camera, between Cherry and attention, flows until she is pushed past her limits.
The film, as shown in the trailer, explores this relationship that unbalances Cherry’s life. The poster for the film illustrates this as the primary dynamic of the film as well, showing Cherry sitting on a floor holding a phone and posing. Only the poster subverts this relationship, that of Cherry as the performer, by showing the flash on the phone going off, turning the viewer into the subject.
Pleasure was created by Ninja Thyberg. The film was shown in Cannes 2020 and the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, and Neon acquired the rights to the United States distribution in October of 2021.
Pleasure will premiere theatrically in the United States on May 13. Check out the new trailer below.
