Patterson LWS set for quarterfinals | News, Sports, Jobs


BELLWOOD — Eight teams remain in the single-elimination 23-team Dean Patterson Little World Series that staged 15 games over Saturday and Sunday at the Bellwood Little League Field.

The quarterfinals begin today with Thompson Pharmacy facing Sylvan Veterinary at 6 p.m. and Park Home playing Northern Cambria at 8.

Two more quarterfinal games will be held on Tuesday with the semifinals Thursday and the championship and consolation slated for Saturday night.

The following is a recap of Saturday’s games:

n Masonic Lodge beat Sheetz of the Altoona Independent Youth League, 22-10, behind Noah Staines, who hit for the cycle, drove in six runs and was the winning pitcher.

n Penn Med knocked off Loretto Legion, 15-6, as Eli Adams drove in five runs, DeShawn Hartsfield drove in four, and winning pitcher Levi Hamilton struck out 12 batters and drove in two runs.

n Parker McConnell struck out 12 batters to help Gallitzin Gremlins down ERA Sports, 6-2.

n Bradyn Partner struck out 10, and Lucas Gonzalez had two hits in Pinecroft Firemen’s 7-4 win over Dean Patterson.

n Montae Andrews struck out 10 and drove in three runs in L.S. Fiore’s 14-6 win over Martin Oil. Luca DiCiurcio drove in four, and Dominic Verticelli drove in three.

n Thomas Brouse knocked in five runs, DeShawn Hudson drove in four, and Carter McConnell had three RBIs in Holsinger’s Plumbing’s 19-1 win over Sheetz of Logan Township.

n Sylvan Veterinary slid past Burgmeier’s Hauling, 5-4, with winning pitcher Tyler Lightner getting multiple hits and driving in a run.

The following are Sunday’s recaps:

n Emma Marasco drove in three runs, and winning pitcher Anthony Riccio struck out eight in Park Home’s 16-9 win over Pinecroft Firemen.

n Northern Cambria beat L.S. Fiore, 6-2, as Zaire Kirsch homered and Zak Kirsch earned the win with 10 strikeouts.

n Brendan Miller struck out nine, and Brayden Pike drove in three runs in Greenwood Meadows’ 11-4 victory over Masonic Lodge.

n Yellow Spring Hardwood blanked Bellwood Eagles, 12-0, with Ethan Reffner driving in three runs and Latrell Barron knocking in two.

n Alex Glasgow earned the win and also homered and drove in five runs in Thompson Pharmacy’s 13-5 win over Holsinger’s Plumbing. Justin Pfeffer drove in three runs for Thompson.

n Sylvan Veterinary received two hits each from winning pitcher Carter Harman and Tyler Lightner in an 8-2 victory over Cresson Lions/Legion.

n Audree Rickens and Cameron Coudreit each had multiple hits and drove in a run in Gallitzin Gremlins’ 11-5 victory over Greenfield Electric. Colvin Mallory struck out nine to earn the victory.

Altoona wins opener

SOMERS POINT, N.J. — Altoona opened the Base Ruth 14U Middle Atlantic Regional with a 7-0 victory over Millville on Saturday.

Braxton Zitsch and Gavin Bell drove in Eli Shade and Brady Steiner, respectively, to open the scoring in the first inning. Paul Wedel and Michael Cacciotti scored runs in the second on RBIs from Braydon Winters and Shade.

Steiner drove in Cacciotti in the fourth, and Altoona added two more in the sixth with the help of an RBI from Will Sankey.

Shade, Steiner and Connor Cobaugh combined on a three-hit shutout.

Altoona will play Bridgewater in the semifinals at 10 a.m. today.

Cumming wins two

Cumming Motors improved to 16-4 in the Altoona Greater City Baseball League by beating Furrer/Star Beverage, 7-1, and Medicine Shoppe, 12-2, at Juniata on Sunday.

Jake Hillard homered and drove in two runs against Furrer and then knocked in three runs, as did Hunter Klotz and Drew Weglarz, against Medicine Shoppe. Weglarz and Kevin Lehner homered in the second game.
