Pakistan politics live updates: In one of the most high drama days in Pakistan on Sunday, the assembly deputy speaker refused to accept a motion of no confidence in the government, saying it was against the constitution. While a massive chaos broke out in the assembly, Imran Khan addressed the nation and called for fresh polls. He also said that there had been a “foreign interreference” in Pakistan’s democratic institutions. 

 

Over 190 opposition leaders declared to move Supreme Court accusing the Pakistan government of “violating the constitution.” The Pakistan Supreme Court on Sunday also adjourned hearing on petition moved by opposition challenging the dismissal of no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.

    Pakistan’s KSE-100 index plunges 1,250 points over political uncertainty

    Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 index shed 1,250.07 points on Monday, a day after the President, in a controversial move, dissolved the National Assembly, leading to political uncertainty in the country.

    The Pakistani rupee also lost value against the US dollar following President Arif Alvi’s decision to dissolve the lower house of Parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was expected to lose a no-confidence vote.

    Pak CJI says SC will issue ‘reasonable order’ on crisis

    Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial said the court will consider the legality of the current situation and issue a “reasonable order”. He further said, “The speaker has discretion to reject a dissolution.”

    A larger bench, comprising the CJP, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, were currently hearing the matter.
