Olive Branch to allow open containers in Old Towne entertainment district – FOX13 News Memphis

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — Olive Branch customers will have the freedom to drink alcohol while walking around Old Towne very soon.

The Board of Alderman approved an ordinance creating an entertainment district that would make this possible last Tuesday.

“I think we will probably get some more foot traffic for sure,” said business owner Josh Zalin.

Zalin owns the Old Towne Bakery. He’s thrilled about the Board of Alderman’s decision to allow open containers in Old Towne.

Other employees are looking forward to this as well.

“If it brings life to Old Towne Olive Branch, I’m very for it. We’ve been here 20 years, so we’ve seen a lot of highs and lows,” said Zalin.

“It’s going to bring in more people and put Old Towne on the map. It will give a chance for the city also to expand on revenue, bring in more profits,” said Justin Ash with the Mississippi Ale House.

According to a map, the blue area is the leisure and recreation area where you can walk around and drink. It’s on the north side of Goodman road.

“I think having an open drinking area around the area is fine. I think it’s awesome as long as you have a DD,” said customer Renae Coleman.

Coleman supports the idea but wants to make sure people are responsible.

She is from Olive Branch and hopes this brings more people to the area.

“Walking around and enjoying this town. It’s a beautiful town. I love it. I’ve been here almost 19 years, but they have built it up, and it’s a beautiful town,” said Coleman.

Right now, the city is still finalizing the details. There will be a final vote on December 7 then the new ordinance will be available to the public.
