EXCLUSIVE: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau‘s getting back into optimistic mood.
Bloomberg has ordered a second season of An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
The show will see Coster-Waldau continuing his journey to find the world’s most visionary researchers, activists and entrepreneurs who are helping drive humanity toward a more sustainable future.
Production on the six-episode season will begin this May and run through August, with the premiere currently slated for a Q4 release. Each ep will run on the Bloomberg TV channel, Bloomberg Originals and Bloomberg.com.
Optimist’s Guide Season Two will see him crisscrossing the globe to dozens of countries including India and many others across Europe and the Americas. We hear locations could include Bengaluru, Lima, New Orleans, Helsinki, Paris and Cartagena.
“Season 1 of An Optimist’s Guide exceeded my expectations, revealing that, despite our differences, we share a deep passion for solving challenges and building a better future,” said Coster-Waldau.
“From the Maasai Mara to the Great Barrier Reef to a city farm in Cleveland, I witnessed firsthand how people everywhere are driving change with innovation and care. This journey has confirmed that optimism isn’t naïve – it’s rooted in action, and I can’t wait to meet more brilliant changemakers in Season 2.”
Coster-Waldau is best known as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, for which he received two Emmy nominations. He’s set to star in BBC drama series King & Conqueror with James Norton, who has been at Series Mania this week.
He’s also appearing in Season 2 of TV+’s The Last Thing He Told Me, which is based on the NYT bestselling novel by Laura Dave.
In 2019, Coster-Waldau launched Ill Kippers Aps with writer Joe Derrick. They co-created and produced Radioman, a ten-part Audible Original crime drama podcast. Derrick is the writer with Coster-Waldau voicing the lead role. Also on their slate is Netflix film Against the Ice, which Coster-Waldau co-wrote with Derrick and starred in opposite Joe Cole.
Ill Kippers is also a co-producer on Optimist’s Guide, alongside Canada’s Cream Productions and Wildfire Television, in association with Bloomberg and in association with Ill Kippers Aps.
Season Two is executive produced by David W. Brady, Philip Clarke, Kate Harrison Karman, Coster-Waldau, Derrick, Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier, with Cream’s Stephanie Weimar the series producer. The executives in charge of production for Bloomberg are executive producers Kyle Kramer and Lidz-Amah Appiah and supervising producer Madison Paglia.
Cream is behind the likes of The Texas Cheerleader Murder Plot for Max, History of the Sitcom for CNN, Age of Samurai for Netflix, All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs for Prime Video, Fear Thy Neighbor for Discovery ID, The Game Show Show for ABC and Blue Rodeo: Lost Together for CBC.
