JORDAN HAGEDORN’S LIFELONG LOVE FOR SPORTS HAS TURNED INTO A LOVE FOR SPORTS CARDS.
EAU CLAIRE (WQOW)- Eau Claire native Jordan Hagedorn’s lifelong love for sports has turned into a love for sports cards.
“I just became obsessed with picking up a lot of cards that I wanted when I was a kid,” said Hagedorn, founder of For The Hobby Sports Cards. “From there it kind of snowballed and the next thing you know I had enough cards to start a card shop.”
After living in New York, Hagedorn and wife Miki came home to Eau Claire in 2018. They dabbled with pop-up card shops in the area, before opening ‘For The Hobby Sports Cards’ in November, a permanent place for fans to buy, sell, trade and share the love for cards and competition.
Hagedorn has scoured the United States for years, amassing a collection of over one million cards, some of them you can’t find anywhere else. For example, Hagedorn has a rare Paul Molitor baseball card, the only one of its kind in the world.
Sports card collection has seen a resurgence during the pandemic. Now, Hagedorn serves his cards to hundreds of customers in a way the Eau Claire community has never seen.
“We’re kind of a halfway point between big cities,” said Bryan Reynolds, a sports card collector and friend of Hagedorn. “I think people around the area are interested to learn more, and this is the perfect place to either meet up and talk to other people, talk to Jordan, and talk to experts in the field.”
Hagedorn says the shop’s purpose is bigger than what’s on the pieces of cardboard.
“The goal for the shop is to be a light in the community, and bring positivity to people who just need some love, and sports cards are the vessel for us to do that,” Hagedorn said. “All I wanted for Christmas was cards, and now to be able to serve that up to families and kids is pretty special.”
Hagedorn is holding special events for customers, including a Giannis Antetokounmpo shoe design contest. When he’s not buying and selling cards, Hagedorn serves as an NFL player agent, and works in marketing for Sneaker News.
